As editor of Wedding Style File, I am always on the hunt for fresh ideas and inspiration, which typically involves scouring bajillions of blogs and websites each week. I usually dig up more gems than I have time to post about, which is why I’ve decided to introduce a brand new feature on Wedding Style File! On the weekends, when Wedding Style File is re-charging its battery, I’ll be sharing some of the little things I’ve spotted lately that interest, intrigue or inspire me, wedding-related or otherwise. I hope you enjoy the first installment of Sunday Assortment!

1. Phenomenal vow renewal via Snippet & Ink: A bride and groom who have been married almost seven years decided to inscribe their wedding vows on the walls of their house — currently undergoing renovation — which would then be painted over and transformed into a hidden treasure. “I had this dream that our house was falling down hundreds of years from now and the new owners saw some writing behind the layers of paint,” says the bride. “As they started to peel back the layers, they saw our vows.” Bonus: The bride and groom slipped back into their old wedding attire and had the occasion documented!

2. Real-life desserts inspired by the works of Wayne Thiebaud would make an irresistible addition to a wedding of modern art affectionados!

3. Brilliance by way of Brandon Chesbro

4. A remarkable still life photo shoot by British set designer Sarah Parker and photorapher Micheal Bodiam captures the everyday diets of Olympic athletes. From TrendLand: “Creating oversize paper settings with miniature-looking real food products, each plate represents a specific diet.” Pictured below: the 2,282 calorie diet of a 17-year-old female artistic gymnast.

5. The always incredible Banksy!

6. Anne Hathaway does Holly Golightly for Vogue (October 2010)

I know it sounds hard to believe, but I actually have other interests besides weddings. The first thing I ever wanted to be as a kid was an architect (or maybe the second thing. I think I wanted to be a mermaid first). I spent hours drawing floor plans in magic marker; it was pretty much my favourite thing to do, while everyone else was out on the playground or running through sprinklers (I know, I’m a freak). Though my architecture career never took off beyond the kitchen table, I’ve always been mesmerized by interior spaces. Every now and again, I spot one which inspires me just as much as a piece of knockout bridal couture.

This next little gem was too good not to share, seeing as it’s basically my dream home. Thanks to Design*Sponge, one of my favourite interior design blogs, I first caught a glimpse of the place last night and have been pining for it ever since. Styled by textile designer Caitlin Wilson, every nook and cranny is bursting with beauty and brilliance. Frankly, I can’t stop staring, it’s simply that spectacular.

Take a peek!

Back to weddings shortly!

Weekends are time for relaxing, catching up with friends and hopping around the blogosphere. One of my first stops is always ZsaZsa Bellagio, a giant, glistening croquembouche of a blog bursting with inspiration from every post. A delightfully curated collection of art, fashion, interior design and — of course — weddings, I find something to gush about every single time I stop by for a pretty little visit. My latest was no exception.

“Luxury Chicks” is a photo series by the peerless Peter Lippmann, the brains behind multiple Christian Louboutin campaigns (and whose work, we all know, I’m obsessed with). Commissioned by French fashion mag Marie Claire 2, the editorial piece features birds dripping in ‘haute joaillerie’ from such designers as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Buccellati and Piaget/Boucheron.

Have a gander…

Love is a triumph of human potential. It is the way we can bring a piece of Heaven to Earth. It is how we were intended to live. It makes G-d our Creator weep with joy. There is no such thing as true love; love itself is true. If it is not true, it is not love. It doesn’t matter if love exists between a man and woman, two men, two women; lovers, friends, siblings, a parent and child. Love conquers all. As humans, it is in our tragic nature to build walls around ourselves. Race, religion, culture, class; these divisions are seemingly endless. All, however, crumble beneath the force of love.

Love must be celebrated. It must be shared. It must be cherished. Above all, it must be rejoiced and delighted in, which is exactly what Elizabeth Messina — one of the world’s most talented wedding and lifestyle photographers — has done with her remarkable blog kiss the groom. Documenting love in its every form, Messina reminds us of the tremendous beauty which exists in the world. I only hope one day my blog may be as inspiring as hers. It is truly a treasure and joy to read.

Some morsels of magnificence:

Check out Elizabeth Messina’s remarkable blog at www.kissthegroom.com – although when I come to think about it, it’s really less a blog and more a glimpse of how the world should be. Needless to say, if you’re anything like me, you’ll go absolutely bonkers.
